There may be some circumstances that would cause you to not be able to e-file your federal income tax return or state income tax return.
The most common reasons to have to paper file your State tax return would be:
- If your state does not accept State Only e-filed returns. (Arkansas and Hawaii do not accept state only e-files)
The most common reasons to have to paper file your Federal tax return would be: - If someone else has already claimed your dependent and you would like to dispute that filing
- There is a dispute on your date of birth provided by the Social Security Administration
- You are filing an amended tax return
- Your tax return keeps getting rejected through efile, and there is no resolution (this is rare).
